The Mao’lung Fragments

The Mao’lung Fragments is a circle of powerful supernatural creatures from around the world. They are all drawn subconsciously (but not unwittingly or even unknowingly) by the Mao’lung Exigency towards Nekoko. The Holy Dragon, Kung Kung, exists within Tess as her Avatar. As one of the Pure Ones of Heaven itself, it suffered the shattering at the end of the First Age. While the essence of that entity remained whole and has fused with a series of heroic human mages since (currently in Nekoko), many fragments scattered around the universe. Some of those pieces fused to the souls of other supernatural denizens.

In the past several years, Nekoko has grown more and more inwardsly curious about the nature of her very soul, her Avatar. Kung Kung has been circumspect but helpful, revealing only pieces at a time through her intensive Seeking processes. But doing so was not without consequence. It evoked a ripple through those farthest reaches of spiritual reality, across the Astral Realm, stirring and impelling these other potent creatures to investigate and learn more about themselves and this connection they all share.

This is only the beginning phase of the Mao’lung Exigency. It is marked only by a pilgrimage and initial gathering of the affected. Whether it results in something more spectacular awaits to be seen. Whether these august people can even acquaint peacefully awaits to be seen…

The Oracle.

Amaya

The Unicorn.
Scathach Sidhe (faerie).
Carolingian Frank. Born during the Sundering, survived the Shattering without undergoing the Changeling Way or becoming a Lost One.

Espy

The Hourglass.
Mokole-mbembe (shapeshifter).
Taino-Ashanti zamba. Secret dragon rites extend her life with intermittent periods of long sleep. The key to understanding the Pure Ones’ prehistorical origins.

Kanika

The Temptress
Follower of Set (vampire).
Ptolemaic Egyptian. Considered a clan exile for embracing the Path of Lillith.

Gemma

The Dream Master.
Sandmen Dream Lord (wraith).
Late Medieval Mediterranean French. Died by the Black Plague.

Alixel

The Harvester.
Tlazopilli (mummy).
Early Olmec. A princess infused with the soul of an enigmatic god, sequestered for millennia, emergent to regain her royal rights.

Ric

Ric Carver is a Sleeper who is only tangentially connected to Nekoko via MACLA. Ric runs a traditional karate school in Kansas City. There is some as-of-yet unknown connection between this seemingly normal human man and the Mao'lung, some whisper of destiny that draws him to the Fragments and they to him, even though he is not a Fragment himself (apparently), or even Awakened in any sense.



The Adjacents


These characters fell into the gravitational pull of the Mao'lung Exigency either through Tess herself, one of the Fragments, or the power of the Exigency itself. The Adjacents are not part of the Mao'lung Avatar in any sense. Nevertheless, they have roles to play in this thickening plot...
