History

Date of Birth: May 25th, 1974
Home: Springfield, Illinois, United States
Family: Marvin and Sandra Barton (parents), Kelly (younger brother)
Awakening: Preordainment (middle-class suburban family, both parents highly educated with PhDs; Monika was born deaf and learned ASSL early on; she nevertheless still excelled in school, earning a scholarship to the University of Chicago for physics; in her freshman year, she was exposed to a Hermetic/Chyme "acoustic sphere" chamber and she could "hear" the Resonance it generated), 1993
Mentor: Stuart Poleon
The Test: Trial by Knowledge (the sphere's creator noticed her reaction, sensed her Awakening, and recruited the brilliant young woman into the Order; putting her through Hermetic schooling alongside her university studies, and still she excelled, going well beyond expectations; nevertheless, she needed mentor's reference to formally join the Order due to misgivings over her deafness)
Comrades: Stuart Poleon, Shaktar Utathya, Donald Williams
Key Event #1: Awe & Wonder (Monika set out to master sound in ways that only a deaf woman could, experimenting with acoustic vibrations and sonic waves)
Key Event #2: Personal Tragedy (as a renowned powerhouse of Forces magick, she was redeployed from Chicago to a small chantry in Centropolis to aid in its defense; she suspected that other Hermetics back home considered her an embarrassment or even liability)
Key Event #3: Awe & Wonder (Monika seized opportunity to develop and build on her sonic testing and making use of more open proving grounds, discovering that her Arts could especially keep nosy spirits at bay, such as from the chantry's Node)
Transition: Loss of Companions (except for her original mentor, she found little friendship even among her own Tradition, and embraced what little camaraderie she could find, particularly with Shaktar, a fellow "oddball" Hermetic)

Resonating Chamber (Sanctum)

Weakness
Not Listening

Monika's deafness isn't her flaw. She's spent her life overcoming this disability. She can now proudly profess that her greatest weakness is, like most Hermetic mages...her pride.

Likelihood of Corruption

Low.

Her pride isn't so great that she can't tell a threat when she sees it and is wise enough to cause any would-be tempter to implode before listening to its lies.
